Boy Scouts
Jim has been active in the Boy Scouts for over twenty years. He made the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of fifteen, was elected to the Order of the Arrow at age 16, and designated Scoutmaster at age 23, working with disadvantaged boys. He is currently assisting with his grandson’s Cub Scout Troop and also serves on Eagle Court of Honor where local scouts are recognized with the prestigious Eagle award.
Immokalee Development Services
Jim served on the Board of Directors for Immokalee Development Services (I.D.S.) 1985-1999. He held the position of Vice President for the seven years. I.D.S. was committed to the development of mentally challenged adults. Most of the clients came from migrant farm families. Operations were taken over by an agency out of Cape Coral.
Golden Gate Business Association
Past President of the Golden Gate Business Association 1988-1989. Jim helped to set the groundwork for start up of the Golden Gate Chamber of Commerce. With the Business Association, he was instrumental in instituting and spearheading the move for county wide mandatory garbage pick up. Jim organized the first Frontier Days Auction. The proceeds were used to finance the first Golden Gate survey, and to pay for a promotional campaign for the Golden Gate area. Jim was also involved in the placement of the 13th St. fire station in Golden Gate Estates.
Golden Gate Area Chamber of CommerceJim was a Board member of the Golden Gate Chamber of Commerce from its founding in 1989 to March 1, 1995, serving as President of the Chamber 1994-1995. During his Presidency, membership went from 135 to 196 members. During that year they held the chamber's first business expo, started up a business beautification award, completed a survey of residents' attitudes, and lit a part of the Golden Gate Parkway for the Christmas season.
Golden Gate Area Civic Association
Jim joined in 1984, helping to organize the annual community Christmas tower lighting, and had been their Santa Claus at the annual tree lighting from 1987 to 2004.
Golden Gate Estates Area Civic Association
He joined in 1990 and has been a continuous member ever since. He served on the Board of Directors from 1995-2000 and was their President 1999-2000. Membership during his year as President went from 81 to 314 members. He was instrumental during his tenure in the expansion of the Mosquito Control coverage area and lobbied for the four laning of Golden Gate Blvd.
The Golden Gate/Naples Chapter of the AARP
Jim has been an active member of the local chapter and invites you to join with him and your neighbors at their monthly luncheon meeting. Bring a dish to pass around and join us for fun and fellowship at the Golden Gate Community Center at noon on the first Thursday each month (closed during the Summer)
Friends of Edison College is an advisory committee that Jim belonged to form 1995-99. Jim is, and always has been committed to local affordable higher education.
Golden Gate Rotary Club
Jim joined in 1993, served on the Board of Directors, and served as President 1999-2000. During his presidency they raised over $7000 for scholarships, and over $5000 for international relief. He was recognized for developing a Rotary business card that is used worldwide. He received the Paul Harris in 2005 and currently serves as the membership chair.
Catholic Charities
Jim accepted an appointment to their Advisory Board in 1994. He was subsequently elected as the Chairman of the Advisory Board 1997-2000. During Jim’s term, Catholic Charities presence was expanded into Immokalee. During that time they received a grant to start up their Elderly Outreach program. Catholic Charities services are provided to all in need. Their Advisory Board has had representatives from all faiths including the Jewish temple. Three of every four service-recipients are non-Catholic. Jim personally founded and headed up the annual food drive at the Collier County Fair that netted over 15000 lbs. of food in 2000. He was also instrumental in the start up of the "Undy Sunday" drive. The drive had over 35 different churches involved and collected some 25,000 sets of new children’s underwear for distribution at Collier County Schools. Jim helped start a quarterly fundraiser letter campaign and is a supporter of the Emerald Ball.
The Florida Sports Park
Joined the Board of Directors July 1996, and served as President from 1998-1999. He has assisted with set up for events. They are a "not for profit organization" that puts on the world famous Swamp Buggy Races. During his presidency we raised over $35,000 for local charities.
Collier County Republican Executive Committee
Jim has been an active participant since 1995. Member of the Collier Republican Men's Club & Collier Republican Club.
American Legion
Membership in "The world's largest and most respected veterans organization."
Sunlite Home
They provide shelter and assistance to pregnant woman. Form 1995-99 Jim assisted the committee with Public Relations and maintenance. In January 2000 he helped them secure funding of $1700 for hurricane storm shutters for the residency.
